Silver Dreamscape
I created a separate portfolio of Native Americans because of my experiences in Pozos, MX. Pozos is a myriad of abandoned buildings at 7,500 feet. Once heavily forested, the area now is denuded. The Spaniards taught the indigenous people methods of silver ore extraction and the area was mined for more than 300 years, abandoned after the start of the Revolution (1910). The overall sense of the place is one of utter abandonment, magic and mystery. I explored Pozos’ crumbling stone walls and roofless houses and experienced an authentic sweat lodge. On several trips I found enchantment in the inevitable sense of decay. Local people probably descendents of the nomadic "Xi'úi" posed for me and displayed authentic musical instruments. I am currently working on this series.
